Issue 4: December

Holiday Gift Guide!

Winter is coming!

Despite the Earth getting closer to the Sun, we are dropping into the winter season. Barbeques and guitars on the porch are gonna have to wait a few months. But what we can do it game!

Seriously, it's the perfect excuse. It's cold and dark and inside has coffee and warmth.

So huddle up to the table and try to crush you opponents.

Game Gift Ideas!

Stocking Stuffers

Do you hate getting stocking stuff as much as I do? All the effort goes into getting gifts and I always completely forget about the stockings. So I have some ideas for you, small games that will fit into a stocking.

Hanabi

One of my favorite travel games. Cards face outwards so everyone can see your hands except you. You give clues and play cards in the correct order to win!

The Mind and the Mind Extreme

Play cards in ascending order, you just can't talk about what cards you have.

Super fun!

Ramen Fury

Rush to prepare and slurp up delicious bowls of ramen filled with tasty ingredients in the use-your-noodle card game Ramen Fury. Collect combos of cards to score for different recipes while adding garnishes to boost your points. At the same time, watch out as other players throw spicy chili peppers your way or swipe foods right from your bowls! It's "take that" fun that will have you calling for takeout!

Flip over Frog

The flippin' frogs are coming! Help your brightly coloured frogs take control of your little corner of the rainforest!

Cleverly place frogs on the game board to flip adjacent tiles, hiding some frogs and revealing others. Each player is given a secret Frog Token at the beginning of the game, determining what colour frogs they are trying to get on to the board.

Super Colt Express

Small version of the very awesome game, Colt Express!

Players compete to be the last Colt Express rider standing because there can only be one when this train stops. Each round, players will place three of their four (or up to six if using the optional extensions included in the game) action cards face down in a pile to determine what they'll do when they are revealed, including moving, shooting, and more. At the end of the round, the last train car is removed...and so is anyone in it! Bandits are eliminated by being knocked from the train, or by being in the last car when it is removed. The last one remaining wins.

Great Gifts for Great People!

2 Player Games

Mandala

In the two-player game Mandala, you are trying to score more than your opponent by collecting valuable cards — but you won't know which cards are valuable until well into the game! Over the course of the game, players play their colored cards into the two mandalas,

7 Wonders Duel

Each player starts with four wonder cards, and the construction of a wonder provides its owner with a special ability. Only seven wonders can be built, though, so one player will end up short.

Watergate

In the two-player game Watergate, one player represents the Nixon administration and tries not to resign before the end of the game while the other player represents The Washington Post and tries to show the connections between Nixon and some of his informers.

Big Game Gifts

Catan

In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick and ore) that are depicted by these resource cards; each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource: hills produce brick, forests produce wood, mountains produce ore, fields produce wheat, and pastures produce sheep.

Small World of Warcraft

(A Small World Stand-Alone Game)

On each turn either use the multiple tiles of your chosen fantasy race to occupy adjacent territories, possibly defeating weaker enemy races along the way, or you give up on your race and let it go into decline. A race in decline is designated by flipping the tiles over to their black-and-white side. At the start of the game or after you go into decline, you choose a new race/power combination at the start of your turn, with the 16 races and 20 powers being paired randomly each game.

Obscurio

Obscurio is a family game, an original mix between an image-based communication game and a secret role game in which the players have to be careful when sharing ideas with their team. Supported by rich contents, Obscurio proposes a fresh new experience in its genre by putting the emphasis on the details of the images and the constant doubt created by the presence of the traitor.

Communicate efficiently and avoid the illusions on your way to escape the Sorcerer's library!
